UPDATED: March 25, 2018 – Not everyone has the necessary financial health score to obtain the high-end cards with reward perks and other benefits. Whether simply too young to have built up any history or you have run into problems in the past, these are likely not a viable option. At least for the time being. This is where the First Savings MasterCard comes in. It is designed for individuals with bad credit scores.
While it doesn’t have any actual reward benefits, it is an excellent way to rebuild your score. If you already have a strong score, this is not the program for you. However, if you’ve found it difficult to receive approval due to your current score, this may be the better option for you.
Managing Your Account Online
By going to the main login page…
- Click on “Account Login” in the middle of the page
- When signing in for new users, the website will ask for:
- Name on the account
- Account number
- 4-digit PIN number
- Billing address
- Basic information to make sure you are the actual owner of the account
- Once you have completed the login process, you can go to the “Make Payment” option.
Here you’ll be able to connect a checking account by typing in the bank, routing number and banking number.
When making a payment, it is easy to do on online. Please note, you will have to have a checking account already established and connected to their online profile
Account Features of FirstSavingsCC.com
The card itself doesn’t have any reward programs attached to it. The main feature is its security. When using to make purchases in-store, there is a PIN you must enter. Due to this, it is similar to using an ATM card at checkouts. The primary purpose is to help you build your score back up. One way it does this is to prevent fraudulent purchases. This PIN is an excellent way it does this.
The interest rate for the program is not set in stone. The interest rate depends on your credit history, income, and a few other factors. The APR can be as high as 29.9%, but this is as high as it goes. There is also no introductory rate. Meaning the rate you start with is going to be the rate you have as long as you are a member.
What are the Downsides?
On the flip side, because there are no rewards or real perks connected with the program, there is no real reason to sign up, outside of having a poor credit score. There is no introductory APR, so transferring existing credit card debt is not an option. There may even be an activation fee based on what your score is. Ultimately, if you can qualify for a better option, you should probably go for the alternative as you won’t receive any actual benefits from the First Savings MasterCard.
